How It Works

RD1 is a closed circuit oxygen rebreather that operates using a breathing gas recycling system:

  • Oxygen is automatically added via a demand valve
  • CO₂ is removed by the scrubber containing sorbent material
  • Gas is recirculated within a closed loop system
  • Separate bailout system for emergency situations

Rinse Exterior

Rinse the entire unit with fresh water after each use to remove salt and debris.

Rinse Breathing Loop

Rinse the breathing loop with fresh water and antibacterial solution for hygiene.

Replace Sorbent

Discard used sorbent from the canister and rinse the scrubber with fresh water before refilling.

Dry Components

Thoroughly dry all components before storage to prevent corrosion.

Store Properly

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Check the condition of O-rings, DSV flappers, and gaskets before each use.

📦 Sorbent Specifications

  • Type: Sofnolime (Soda Lime)
  • Mesh Size: 8-12 mesh (granular)
  • Capacity: 5-5.5 lbs (2.25-2.5 kg)
  • Duration: Up to 5 hours
  • Formula: 1 hour per pound of sorbent

📋 Replacement Steps

  1. Open the scrubber canister by turning the end cap
  2. Dispose of used sorbent safely
  3. Rinse the canister with clean fresh water
  4. Dry the canister completely
  5. Fill with fresh sorbent to the top (do not compact)
  6. Reinstall the end cap ensuring a tight seal
  7. Perform a leak test before diving

⚠️ Important Warnings

  • Do not use sorbent that has hardened or changed color
  • Ensure canister is completely filled to prevent channeling
  • Always perform a pre-dive check after replacement
  • Store sorbent in tightly sealed packaging
  • Replace sorbent every 5 hours of use or as indicated
